(The “What Makes Me Click” category is where I share things I like…it could be anything from a cool website to a yummy lip gloss, to a favorite song)
You have to check out the Khan Academy. I’m sorry if this makes me seem like a geek, but I actually am a geek in many categories. Being a part-time homeschooler, I’m always on the lookout for cool websites. I found this guy Salman Khan on TED.
Khan began by uploading video tutorials for his nephews. That simple idea grew into a non-profit website that has had more than 44 million hits. You can view short clips on Math, Science, Humanities, Test Prep and more. Teachers and students can make their way through lessons and track progress.
This website isn’t just for kids. Bill Gates is a supporter of this organization and he said that he uses it to brush up on some topics for himself. Khan has an affable manner, making it easy for even my 12-year-old to enjoy his videos.
Enjoy this video of Salman Khan addressing the TED audience. He has some really great ideas about humanizing the classroom experience in public schools.
