Twenty-five years ago today, I married my friend, Alan. We were very young and, truth be told, we really didn’t know what we were doing. We were going to “live on love.” Yet through all these years we have been able to grow up together in every possible way. When we were dating, I remember feeling so safe when Alan put his arm around me. Now, after 25 years, we are finding new ways to make a safe haven for each other. Long-time love definitely has its ups and downs. But my desire is to find out what it looks like to love someone for decades, watching love change and deepen as we grow old together.
I found an old book entitled Love Poems for the Very Married by Lois Wyse. Beginning today, I will share one poem a day for about a week to celebrate our anniversary. A fun way to see into long-time love.
Happy Anniversary, Alan! I love you.
Non-Stop
Someone asked me
To name the time
Our friendship stopped
And love began.
Oh, my darling,
That’s the secret.
Our friendship
Never stopped.
Edited to add:
I just realized that it might be fun to show what we looked like, lo those many years ago. Please forgive the quality of the pics. There are some specks, but you get the idea. It was 1985 and we were young!

happy anniversary to the both of you! thank you for sharing the blessings of your love with others. i will be reading the poems.
